The St. Pete Road Runners’ Racing Series (the “Series”) is a collection of 14 events that will take place during 7 Tampa Bay area races. During each event, SPRR members can earn points based on age-graded scoring. For an explanation of age-graded scoring, please click here. The points will be totaled at the end of the Series and the top three male and female runners with the highest point totals will be awarded prizes for their accomplishments. In addition, an award will be presented to every member that participates in 3 of the 7 races. The purpose of the Series is to determine the “best” runners during the racing season, encourage race directors to provide quality races, and encourage club participation at these races.  The Series includes races of multiple distances over a period of several months to ensure the Series does not favor individuals that excel at a particular distance or time of the year.

Eligibility

Runners must be a member of SPRR in good standing to be eligible. Each member that wants to participate in the Series must notify Eric Sager by email (sager_eric@hotmail.com) and provide their name, age as of December 8, 2007 (date of the first race in the series), email address, and mailing address. The age is necessary to calculate the age-graded scoring.

Any runner who is eligible for the first Series race is eligible for the entire Series. Anyone who wishes to become eligible during the Series can do so by becoming a member of SPRR and will be eligible for Series points from the commencement of membership into the SPRR and notification of Series participation.

Points and Scoring
The points awarded for each Series event will be determined by age-graded scoring. For example, if your age-graded score for a particular Series event is calculated to be 87.1 percent, then you will be awarded 87.1 points for that race.

A runner can score points for any of the Series events included in the official schedule.  For example, if a runner participates in both the 5K and 10K events of the St. Pete Beach Classic, then that runner will score points for both Series events.
Your overall points total is based on the cumulative points throughout the Series.  Current standing will be posted on the SPRR web site.  The standings during the Series will be unofficial.  The official standings and the winners will be announced at the SPRR annual picnic on April 12, 2008. The official standings will be posted after the picnic and maintained on the SPRR web site.

Awards and Raffle Prizes

Awards will be presented to the top three male and female participants at the SPRR Annual picnic on April 12, 2008.  The awards will be as follows:

1st Place: 2-night stay at the Alden Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach

2nd Place: 6-month membership to Fit for Life Fitness Center

3rd Place: Endurance Sports Eyewear Sunglasses

Every member that participates in 3 of the 7 races will be presented an award at the end of the Series. Please note that a member who participates in both the 5K and 10K of the St. Pete Beach Classic is participating in 2 Series events and will earn Racing Series points for both races. However, the same member will only receive 1 credit toward the participation award.

A number of outstanding prizes will be raffled at the SPRR annual picnic.  Each member attending the picnic will be given one raffle ticket.  However, members will receive an additional raffle ticket for every Series event in which they participate.  The more Series events that you participate in, the better you chances of winning a prize!

Ties
Only one male and female runner will be assigned to each of the first three places. In case of a tie, the following tie breakers will be used. The tie breakers were developed based on the quality of the runs and event participation.

Tie-Breaker #1: The runner with the most age-graded scores of 60 percent or greater will be awarded the prize associated with that place. The other runner(s) will be assigned the next lower place. All runners with lower scores than the tied runners will be moved down in place by a count equal to the number of "displaced" tied runners.

Tie Breaker #2: If there is still a tie for the place, then the runner with the most age-graded scores of 70 percent or greater will be awarded the prize associated with that place.

Tie Breaker #3: If there is still a tie for the place, then the runner who participated in more Racing Series events will be awarded the prize.

Tie Breaker #4: If there is still a tie for the place, then the runner who accumulated the most running miles during the Racing Series will be awarded the prize.

Disputes
All disputes should be submitted to the SPRR Racing Series Committee. The committee with the approval of the Board of Directors will settle all disputes before the end of the Series.
